What is the Variance?
The term variance refers to a statistical measurement of the spread between numbers in a data set. More specifically, variance measures how far each number in the set is from the mean (average), and thus from every other number in the set. Variance is often depicted by this symbol: σ2.
Variance Formulaa
There are two type of variance One is sample variance and the other is population variance
Sample Variance formula
- S2 denotes the sample variance.
- n is the total number of observations
- xi is the set of data values
- x̄ is the sample mean
Population Variance formula
- σ2 denotes to population variance
- n is the number of observations
- xi is the observed values of the sample item, and
- x̄ is the mean value of the sample
